This little guy is Jocko by *Steiff/Germany. He like many of his friends is also made of Mohair and is a colored a lovely dark brown. The Jocko line was made between 1959 and 1966. He was bought by our family back in 1959/60 and has been packed away lovingly all these years. Now and you know I'm going to say it...He hungry and wants his bananas. In good condition, has his tag and button (#5315.03, this number also went to the chocolate brown original teddy). He is around 5 inches (more we think if his legs were stretch out, but we will not do this). A most delightful addition to any Steiff collection or as a gift. *(Steiff is the world’s oldest plush manufacturer. Founded in 1880 by Margarete Steiff, a seamstress who was limited to sewing with one hand due to
polio, the company has grown to be synonymous with top quality the world over. Steiff is best known as the company that invented the Teddy bear. In 1902, Richard Steiff, a nephew of Margarete and a gifted artist/inventor, presented the idea to Margarete. At first, she was not enthusiastic. But with Richards persistence, she finally relented. And the rest is history. The famous “Button in Ear” trademark, introduced by Franz Steiff, another of Margarete’s nephews, in 1904, distinguishes every Steiff Teddy bear or animal).
