Hee Haw, I mean here we have Esel the Donkey by *Steiff/Germany. His line was made from 1959 till 1967. He was bought by our family when he came out and has been packed away with all his companions for many years. And now that he is out he saying what the hay or should I say where's the hay (sorry can't resist these puns). He is made of Mohair, has his tag, red halter and his button (#1412.00, his named is not on his tag, but through research I have found out what it was. Why they did not put it on his tag, we do not know..maybe it was suppose to be that way or it might be a manufacturing mistake). Esel is in good condition and is around 4 1/2 inches tall. Would make a wonderful addition to any Steiff collection or even as a gift. *(Steiff is the world’s oldest plush manufacturer. Founded in 1880 by Margarete Steiff, a seamstress who was limited to sewing with one hand due to
polio, the company has grown to be synonymous with top quality the world over.Steiff is best known as the company that invented the Teddy bear. In 1902, Richard Steiff, a nephew of Margarete and a gifted artist/inventor, presented the idea to Margarete. At first, she was not enthusiastic. But with Richard’s persistence, she finally relented. And the rest is history. The famous “Button in Ear” trademark, introduced by Franz Steiff, another of Margarete’s nephews, in 1904, distinguishes every Steiff Teddy bear or animal).
